As part of Haxey Parish Council's contribution to the 400th anniversary of the drainage of the Isle of Axholme by Cornelius Vermuyden in 1626, an archaeological dig took place on Saturday the 11th of July. A team of local archaeologists have found the remains of the front wall of a medieval house a few meters from the main road. This is an important discovery for the village, which is steeped in history and home to the ancient game of Haxey Hood. Evidence from the later Tudor period was also found, along with new finds from the 19th and 20th centuries.
